Rules and Regulations

The 2009 Championship Peruvian Horse Show is approved by United States Peruvian Horse Association and is operated in accordance with the current official Rules and Regulations of Horse Showing and the Breed Standards of the United Stated Peruvian Horse Association. Every person who participates in this show is responsible for the knowledge of and is subject to the USPHA rules. Rule Books may be obtained through the USPHA office or at www.uspha.net.

1. Entries will close Oct 10, 2009, unless otherwise noted. Entries must be postmarked on or before the date due; meter stamped mail will only be accepted if received on or before due date. Entries received after Oct 10 will be charged a Late Fee of $10 per horse. Exhibitors are responsible for errors on entry blanks. By making the entry, the exhibitor agrees to abide by all United States Peruvian Horse Association rules and regulations of horse showing and Peruvian Paso breed standards. No telephone entries will be accepted.

2. Entries must be made on official USPHA entry forms included in the premium. Copies are acceptable. All applicable fees must accompany entries. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. Copies of applicable registration papers must be included. This show is open to any purebred Peruvian Horse registered with an approved registry A COPY OF THE REGISTRATION PAPERS FOR EACH HORSE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH EACH ENTRY FORM. Horses are not considered entered until the Show Secretary has verified ownership and registration.

3. Post entries are accepted . Post entries must be made at least 4 classes prior to the class being entered.

4. Exhibitors are urged to check classes entered when picking up exhibitor numbers and credentials to verify accuracy of entries. Signature for credentials will constitute acceptance of classes as recorded.

5. Any exhibitor issuing a worthless or returned check for entry or other fees shall have 10 days from the date of notification to make payment with cash or money order or cashiers check to the USPHA and will be subject to a $20.00 service charge. Any exhibitor not adhering to the above rule shall have all entries canceled and shall be suspended from participation in all USPHA sponsored events until their account is cleared.

6. The USPHA Show Management reserves the right to decline or accept entries at any time without statement of reasons.

7. Refunds-Partial entry fees will be refunded only with a signed statement from an accredited veterinarian that the horse is unable to compete. All veterinary certificates received by United States Peruvian Horse Association will receive a refund of 50 percent of all entry fees. Any veterinarian certificates received after that date will be considered invalid and refunds will not be paid. Office & Stall Fee charges will not be refunded under any circumstances.

8. Stall requests/assignments will be based on the date stall reservations and complete payment is received. When a requested stall is no longer available the show management will notify exhibitor to make further arrangements.

9. Stall assignments will be available at Horse check-in upon arrival at the show grounds. The Show Secretary's Office will be open 7:00AM-8:00PM. Arrival at any other times may result in a delay in receiving stalling assignments and bedding. Please call ahead if you plan to arrive after 8:00PM

10. Barn Check In begins Friday October 23, 2009 For early arrivals, please make your request on your stall request form and notify Sandra Norman at 303-697-9567 to confirm your space. Check out should be no later than noon on Monday, October 26, 2009.

11. Show Office Hours-The Horse Show Office will be open each morning 1 hour prior to the start of each show and close 1 hour after the last class has shown each day.

12. Parking Horse trailers will not be permitted in the stall area except for the purpose of unloading and loading. All trucks and trailers must be attended at all times while inside the horse show area. All trailers must then be parked in the vehicle parking area

14. The United States Peruvian Horse Association reserves the right to amend or change rules, classes and times of classes at any time prior to the judging and due notice will be given to exhibitors of any such changes.

15. The United States Peruvian Horse Association may, at its discretion, expel any person or persons abusing any horse on Horse Show Grounds at any time and entry fees will be forfeited

16. If number of entries in any class exceed that number that can be judged in one group, the class will be judged in 2 sections and the top horses in each section brought back to show for class awards.

17. Protests will be handled according to the rules of USPHA.

18. Exhibitors are warned that any act of disobedience to the Officials on the part of the owner, groom, or rider of any horse on exhibition will disqualify such horse for adjudication and exhibitor shall forfeit all fees. Further action may be taken at the discretion of the Horse Show Manager or Show Steward.

19. Any horses doctored, or in any way improperly or unfairly prepared or tampered with before going into the show ring will be disqualified.

20. The show ring will be under absolute control of the USPHA Show Management. Only qualified persons will allowed in the ring during judging.

21 Stalls and walkways should be cleaned by 9:00AM for the safety of USPHA Show spectators.

22. NO dogs are allowed on the Show Grounds other than those on leash or Seeing Eye dogs.

23. No Photographer will be allowed in the show ring with the exception for the "official" USPHA Show photographer.

24. All horses must be accompanied by: (1) an official health certificate issued within 30 days of departure for the event individually identifying each animal with a statement from the issuing veterinarian that says "The (animals) represented on this health certificate have no signs of VSV.” and (2) a proof of negative Coggins (EIA) test within 12 months of show. Oklahoma resident horses do not need Coggins.

25. Responsibility: Entries are accepted with the understanding that the United States Peruvian Horse Association National Horse Show and the USPHA will not be held responsible for any loss, personal injury, or damage to horses exhibited or for any article of any kind or nature that may be lost or destroyed or in any way damaged. All horses shall be under the control and direction of the Show Committee but solely at the risk of the exhibitor, who will be responsible for any injury that maybe occasioned to any person or animal or damage to any property while on the show grounds by any horse owned or exhibited by him and shall indemnify the management against all claims or damages of any kind or nature, including attorney fees and court costs, that may grow out of any injury occasioned by any horse owned or exhibited by him or arising from any cause whatever, including the negligence of himself or any other person, including the person in charge of any such horse

26. Attire:Please refer to the USPHA Show Rules for full and detailed requirements. It is the tradition of the show ring that a handler/rider be correctly attired for the class in question, that attendants be suitably and neatly dressed, and horses be properly groomed and presented. No identifications shall be permitted on handlers or riders except for assigned horse show number. Peruvian, English, Western, Spanish, Peruvian Trail or Australian Gear is permissible in any class. Combining or mixing of different types of gear is not permissible except that the Peruvian Bit can be used with any head gear and the Peruvian Bozal without halter and eye covers can be used in any class which permits the bozal.
*Attire is limited to white long-sleeved shirt, white pants, white kerchief, boots and belt and a Peruvian style hat. Spurs may be worn at rider option.
*Classes shown under Peruvian gear and in the bit will also require a poncho or jacket which must be white, cream, beige, gray, tan, brown, black, navy blue, or maroon/burgundy.
* Halter Classes: Scarf tucked into belt, no spurs, hat optional, white athletic type shoes optional.
*Trail Division: May include jeans, riding pants.
*Bozal: NO poncho
*Spurs optional in all classes except Reining, where they are mandatory, and are prohibited in Bareback, Bozal, Halter, and Junior 12 and under Classes.

27. Judges Authority The Judges have the authority to place any horse in whatever position He/She thinks the merit of the horse justifies. No horse , rider or handler may leave the Show ring without permission of the judge; the rider/handler must request permission through the Ring steward.

28. Timing There will be 3 minutes after the gate is opened for the called class and 7 minutes for a tack change, which must be requested to the announcer as far ahead as possible.

29. Champion of Champions Classes: 1st and 2nd place qualifying classes will be automatically entered into the appropriate Best or Champion & Reserve Classes. If the qualifying class allows more than one sex of horse, the 1st & 2nd place winners will be entered into the class of the appropriate sex. Champion of Champions classes will be open to champions of the current year PLUS all previous years champions. All previous years Champions going directly into Champion of Champions classes must complete Prueba Funcional.

30. Proof of Ownership: Copies of registration papers for each horse entered in the show must be sent in with entry form .

All horses to compete in the Breeding Division bit classes (Breeding Stallion, Mare, Luxury Gelding; Stallion, Mare, Gelding Gait Classes, and respective Champion/Reserve/Champion of Champions and Best Gaited Horse classes) must complete Prueba Funcional. Entry to Prueba is according to show numbers as stated below. Note: Post Entries to Division must have completed Preuba Funcional.
